I build Djembes and Ashikos using U.S. grown hardwood staves. Stave construction is lighter than drums of the same size that are carved from a single tree log. My 12 in. x 26 in rope-tuned Djembes weigh an average 12 - 13 pounds versus a typical African carved Djembe of 18 to 25 pounds.
