My 1977 GonBops

I bought these Mahogony GonBops new in 1977 and always carried them in hard cases. I had the rims re-chromed in 2004. The matched skins were cut from the same cowhide by Akbar Moghaddam at Sol Drums in San Francisco before they closed shop. Akbar was one of the craftsman at Valje congas before their tragic fire in 1986 and at the time I wrote this he was working for the "new" GonBops in Los Angeles..

1977 GonBops Bongos

I bought these bongos new in 1977 with my GonBops Congas. They have large 7 inch and 9 inch diameter heads with the original skins and still sound great.

1976 Fiberglass Congas

I bought these congas new in 1976. They are lightweight but produce great sounds, probably because of the high quality cowhide skins. I refinished the shells recently so they still look great for 35 year old drums.

My Shekere

A friend of mine in Philadelphia made this Shekere for me.
